Visitors view an exhibition with images and text reflecting the history of Altadena

Community Women Vital Voices and the Altadena Library, in partnership with cityLAB-UCLA, invite you to The Black Legacy Voice Echoes Our Truth: Pasadena/Altadena Community, on view at the Bob Lucas Memorial Library from October 12–31, 2025. First presented at the Eaton Fire Rebuild Senior Summit, this community-rooted exhibition uplifts Black history, resilience, and cultural legacy through family stories, archival research, and interactive storytelling. Anchored by the Legacy Wall and a participatory mapping installation, the exhibition offers space for reflection, connection, and care. Please join us for the opening reception on Sunday, October 12, 3–5 PM.

*Exhibition components:

1) The Legacy Wall (12 ft long): traces over a century of cultural rootedness, resilience, creativity, and advocacy. Pulling together stories of landmarks, homes, civic leaders, cultural icons, and artistic groups from archival photographs, family stories, and oral histories, the wall uplifts community anchors—shared places and beliefs—that have shaped Black life and belonging across generations.

2) A collective map (4ft wide): residents use interactive stickers to mark memories, griefs, and hopes
3) UCLA students' project adapted to the kids' zone: interpreting the history of Altadena’s landscape, music, arts, housing, and community in storybook format and playful activities

People have placed sticky notes on a detailed map of Altadena, offering memories and hopes for rebuilding
